1.Insurance Benefits

1.1       A staff member will be entitled to the following insurance coverage from his or her first day of work. Please refer to the Human Resource Department for insurance coverage details.

  • Group Hospitalization and Surgical Insurance
  • Group Personal Accident Insurance
  • Group Term Life

2.Group Hospitalization and Surgical Insurance

2.1       All staff member is entitled to group hospitalization and surgical insurance benefits according to the plans applicable for them under the prevailing group hospitalization and surgical insurance (GHS) policy.

2.2       Please check with the Human Department on the details of your GHS plan.

2.3       The prevailing group hospitalization and surgical insurance (GHS) policy has a one year waiting period before covering any staff member for any pre-existing illnesses.

2.4       A staff member whose hospitalization and surgical expenses exceeded the limits imposed by his or her insurance plans would have to personally bear the excess costs.

2.5       Staff member who is Singaporean or Permanent Resident is strongly encouraged to obtain a referral from a Singapore Government polyclinic for admission to a Singapore Government Restructured Hospitals in order to maximize the use of Singapore Government subsidies.

2.6       Staff member who is a foreigner (work permit or s pass holder) is strongly encouraged to consider hospital rates equivalent to that for admission to 4 -beds ward in a Government restructured hospital; and to bear in mind that the claim limit is $15,000 per disability, including government taxes.

2.7       A staff member admitted to private hospital would not be able to tap on Singapore Government subsidies to lower their medical expenses.

2.8       All staff member is hereby informed that any stay in either Government aided or private Community Hospitals for physiotherapy, rehabilitation, rest care and nursing care is not covered under the prevailing group hospitalization and surgical insurance policy.

2.9       Due considerations to both the maximum entry age and the maximum expiry age for coverage under the GHS policy should be made before hiring or re-hiring retirees.

2.10    Please see Appendix A on the documents required to be submitted for GHS insurance claim.

3. Group Term Life Insurance

3.1       This policy provides 24-hour coverage worldwide against death, total permanent disability or diagnosis of terminal illness of the insured employee.  Staff members are covered at an insured sum of 24 times the monthly basic salary.

3.2       (Organization) is the policy holder and named beneficiary of the insurance proceeds under the policy and retains full discretion on the decision related to the distribution of these proceeds.

3.3       The intent of this staff benefits is to provide the staff members’ dependents with financial assistance in the event of a claim.

3.4       The eligibility for this benefit would be based on both the maximum entry age and maximum expiry age as stipulated by the insurance company.

4.Group Personal Accident Insurance

4.1       This policy provides 24-hour coverage worldwide against death and/or permanent disablement resulting solely and directly from an accident as well as bodily injury caused solely and directly by violent accidental external and visible means. Staff members are covered at an insured sum of 24 times the monthly basic salary.

4.2       Exclusions from coverage under the prevailing policy include:

  • Self-inflicted injuries or any attempt thereat while sane or insane.
  • Insurrection declared or undeclared war or any warlike operations, military or naval service in time of declared or undeclared war or while under the orders for warlike operations or restoration of public order.
  • Participation in a riot, committing an assault or felony.
  • Participation in competitive racing on wheels.

4.3       The eligibility for this benefit would be based on both the maximum entry age and maximum expiry age as stipulated by the insurance company.

5.Travel Insurance

5.1       (Organization) will purchase the appropriate travel insurance for all staff that travel on (Organization)’s business.

5.2       Travel insurance coverage shall be limited to a basic cover on a per trip basis for the dates and region or zone applicable. A staff member or pastor who travels frequently may seek approval in writing for annual coverage. Staff members travelling as a group should purchase the group plan, if available at a discounted premium.

6. Workmen Injury Compensation Insurance

6.1       All staff member is insured by Organization for work injury compensation.

6.2       The staff member is required to report to his immediate supervisor immediately when he suffers personal injury by accident in the course of his work.

6.3       The supervisor or agency or department head should notify the human resource department of the incident. It is required by law to report a work-related accident to the Ministry of Manpower if one of the following applies:

  • It results in the death of an employee.
  • The employee has to take more than 3 days of medical leave (whether consecutive or not).
  • The employee was hospitalized for at least 24 hours.

6.4       For cases with 3 or fewer days of medical leave, it is required to report the accident to the Ministry of Manpower should the staff member wants to claim permanent incapacity compensation.

6.5       Compensation is payable when an insured person suffers injury arising out of and in the course of employment.

6.6       Please check with the Human Resource Department if you want to know whether there is any insurance policy extension covering injury from accident that occurred while travelling between home and work.
